PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
– Jeannette Kanter

I hope you were able to enjoy the glorious weather that New York was blessed with this summer and that you are invigorated and ready to help move the New York State Association forward.

One of the areas that I have not fully addressed is visiting around the State, getting to know you, our members, getting the word out about the New York State Association and the importance of this organization in the lives of our members. Because it is never too late to start, I want to share with you some of the ways I would like your help in accomplishing this task.

We are fortunate in having more than 1,000 members in the New York State Association and all of them receive this newsletter. New York has 16 chapters and I have only visited a couple of them.

Beginning in the fall, I would like to visit chapters and present a program on the New York State Association. This would give me an opportunity to meet and talk with you and share the work and activities of the state association. If all your programs are in place for the coming year, I would be willing to make a brief presenta- tion before the scheduled program. Most of all I would like to visit with you and get to know you both as a member of the New York State Association and in your chapter role. Visiting with you will give me an opportunity to explore ways that we can help each other as members of the New York State Association and with your chapter. Closer ties between chapters and the state association will enable us to meet your needs and be current with your thinking about issues of concern to all of us.

SHHH chapters are not available in some areas of the state. I would, therefore, like to suggest that you think about other organizations that you are affiliated with and consider sharing with your colleagues and friends information about the New York State Association. Perhaps you would like to present a program on SHHH and its goals and accomplishments and would like to include the efforts of the New York State Association. I would be happy to participate and if necessary help you develop a presentation for your organization.

Wherever possible I want to include the Officers of NYSA and ask them to share this task with me, especially our Vice President, Sue Miller.

Let me know if there is a specific date that would be good for you, your chapter or any other organizations that may be interested in the work of the NYSA of SHHH.
